World Soil Day observed at AMU

The Centre for Agricultural Education, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University, celebrated the World Soil Day in online mode. This day is commemorated annually to spread awareness about the importance of soil.
Prof Rais Ahmad, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences highlighted the importance of educating and creating awareness for protecting soil health. He said that the poor condition of soil leads to degradation, which is a pressing environmental issue globally.
Prof P Q Rizvi, Chairman, Department of Plant Protection delivered a talk on the theme: “Halt soil salinization, boost soil productivity”. He emphasised on promoting awareness about the importance of healthy ecosystems by tackling issues related to soil management and soil salinisation, which causes erosion, leading to poor agricultural yields in a particular region.
Prof Iqbal Ahmad, Organizing secretary and Coordinator, with his team of Guest Teachers organised this programme in which a large number of students participated.
Dr Majhrool Hak Ansari proposed the vote of thanks.
