Web-Talk on Agriculture and Policy Initiatives held in AMU

Economic Society of Department of Economics, AMU organised a web-talk on the ‘Importance of Agriculture and Policy Initiatives ’for students recently. Talk was delivered by Dr Md. Nazmuddin (IES Officer), Advisor, Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, New Delhi.
He shared insights on the sectoral contribution of agriculture to GDP, employment and budgetary support in agriculture sector, policy interventions, minimum support price, and impact on farmers. His discussion on the impact of demonetisation in 2016 and Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 was very enriching.
Dr Nazmuddin also provided a detailed account of the importance and impact of Minimum Support Price (MSP) and its role in protecting and creating confidence among farmers. He appreciated the performance of India in terms of procurement of wheat and rice and the importance of National Mission on Edible Oil-Oil Palms in protecting farmers.
Introductory remarks were given by Prof Md. Abdus Salam, Chairman, Department of Economics. A question answer session was organised. The Web-talk was arranged by Dr Dastgir Alam, Associate Professor and Incharge, Economic Society.
Mr Anzal Ahmad (MA IIIrd Sem), Secretary, Economic Society delivered a vote of thanks and Miss Vastavi Sharma (MA IIIrd Sem) compered the proceedings.
The Web-Talk was attended by undergraduate students, postgraduate students and research scholars of the Department of Economics.
