B.Com 1996 batch Alumni Meet organised

Wednesday, December 15, 2021

The 1996 batch, Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) students of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) from various geographical areas, cultures and time zones relived old days, shared anecdotes of their remarkable journeys and engaged in interactive sessions with the present students and faculty members in a special ‘Alumni Meet’ at the Department of Commerce.

Addressing the gathering of the B.Com 1996 batch alumni, Prof Nawab Ali Khan (Chairman, Department of Commerce) said, “Meeting batch mates after many years can be a beautiful experience, especially when everyone is busy trying to juggle between work, family, and friends”.

On the importance of alumni relations, he emphasised that alumni serve many valuable roles and helping to build and grow a university’s brand through word-of-mouth marketing is one of them.

“Universities view students as lifelong commitments that do not end at graduation. Alumni are resources that can provide meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships over time”, added Prof Nawab.

After the welcome address, Prof Imran Saleem explained the vitality of alumni relations.

He stressed: “The Department of Commerce is committed to strengthening the bond with our worldwide alumni community. We are dedicated to sustaining the connection between the alumni and the University and to act as a means through which the alumni can contribute their collective knowledge and perspective to the life of the Department of Commerce and the University and to develop from their ranks effective and responsive leadership”.

Reminiscing the old time, 1996 batch alumnus and Chief Guest Rehan Wali (Director, Aymen General Trading, Senegal, South Africa) and Guests of Honour, Aleem Ahmad Khan (Consultant, Al Futtaim Motors, UAE) and Mohammad Amir (Manager, Aymen General Trading, UAE) shared stories from their student days and discussed how their teachers motivated and mentored them for successful careers.

“We are committed to contribute and give back to our alma mater in all possible ways”, they said.

For smart teaching and conferences, Rehan Wali gifted the department with two Interactive Touch Panels with accessories worth over Rs. 4, 30,000 and announced that he intends to start scholarships for students from lower-economic strata.

“I wish to make a decision on the scholarship amount after meeting the Dean, Faculty of Commerce”, he pointed out.

Prof S M Imamul Haque, Prof Asiya Chaudhary, Prof Mohd Shamim and Dr Mohd Asif Khan thanked the alumni for generosity and for making time from the busy schedules to attend the meet.

Dr Suhalia Parveen extended the vote of thanks.
