AMU observes awareness programme on ‘Omicron’

Tuesday, December 14, 2021

Prof Rubi Anjum, Chairperson, Department of Tahaffuzi Wa Samaji Tib, A K Tibbiya College (AKTC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) stressed on following the appropriate Covid behaviour and warned that the risk of virus spread is still very high.

Her talk was a part of a special awareness drive on the new Covid variant, ‘Omicron’ at the Department of Tahaffuzi Wa Samaji Tib, A K Tibbiya College (AKTC).

Prof Rubi said: “We have to wear masks, wash hands frequently, and avoid functions as well as crowded markets. Sending children to schools is highly risky. The only way to counter Omicron is keep your guard strong and take precautions”.

Urging people not to pay heed to rumours, she added, “Researchers in the Country and across the world are conducting studies to better understand many aspects of Omicron and will continue to share the findings of these studies as they become available”.

Prof Rubi spoke on different aspects of prevention and control of the Omicron variant.

Dr Ammar Ibne Anwar and Dr Abdul Aziz Khan urged people not to show a casual attitude towards the Covid norms and to get fully inoculated.

Alongside the awareness talk, posters on creating awareness among the public, need to behave in a responsible manner, importance of vaccines, guidelines to be followed and not to lower the guard against virus were also presented. An official notice on the necessary precautions to curb the spread of the new variant was also circulated.

Dr M Usman was instrumental in organising the programme.
