AMU launches distance mode Apprenticeship Embedded degree programmes

Saturday, December 04, 2021

In line with the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines to promote outcome-based learning and employability, the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will now offer ‘Apprenticeship Embedded’ degree programmes in Bachelor of Arts (B A) and Bachelor of Commerce (B Com) that will include internships and industrial training in corporate organisations.

“The apprenticeship/internship embedded B A and B Com courses will not only be limited to theory and information, but will also focus on practical and experiential components, vital for building careers. These programmes are creditised to offer students an opportunity to engage with industry on a fairly long-term basis and earn academic credits”, said Prof Mohd Nafees Ahmad Ansari (Director, CDOE).

He pointed out: “These courses will include online training, face-to-face training and on-job training with established corporate organisations and on completing the courses, the students will be given an AMU degree with job-experience letters from the employers. Students will also receive monthly stipends from the employers during their on-job training as per the Minimum Wages ACT of the states”.

According to Prof Ansari, “AMU is the first Central University to launch the Apprenticeship Embedded degree programmes”.
