Aligarh: Over 300 Patients get Free Medical Consultation through SIO’s Helpline

A state of chaos ensued with the second wave of COVID-19 across the country. The majority of people are affected due to a lack of adequate oxygen, hospital beds, injections, and medications. The death toll continues to rise as a result of an absence of sufficient medicine and treatment. In such circumstances, nationwide organisations and groups have stepped forward to serve the people.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and its student wing, SIO of India, are at the forefront to serve this noble cause. For the same, Jamaat is establishing multiple temporary hospitals and COVID treatment centres with oxygen, beds, and medical treatment, most notably in Nagpur and Delhi. Along with this, Jamaat has also established free consultation helplines in various states, where patients can seek free advice from professional doctors.

SIO, the Jamaat’s student wing, has launched a nationwide COVID relief helpline. More than 1,000 volunteers from all states have been mobilised under the banner of the “COVID Relief Task Force” (CRTF) to work around the clock to ensure that Corona patients receive oxygen, hospital beds, plasma, medicine, and other medical facilities on time. The team received applications from over 6,000 COVID patients in the first week of this work and provided verified information about resource providers to approximately 3,000 patients. This CRTF’s control room has been established at the headquarters of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.

SIO’s Aligarh Muslim University zone has also established a COVID Relief Task Force. First and foremost, it consists of a sub-team of volunteers who deliver food, medicine, oxygen, and other necessities to isolated patients in their homes affected by Corona on the ground. These volunteer services are provided in collaboration with the Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation.

The task force’s second team is online connecting the general public, including both Corona positive and negative patients, to the team of doctors. Anyone can send their complaints to SIO AMU via social media or WhatsApp. Later, these volunteers refer the patient to a specialist doctor as per their complaint. More than 315 patients have benefited from this helpline so far.

The task force’s third team consists of volunteers who examine resources online or by phone, research them, and report on whether the required items are available. This is what online verification entails.

“This epidemic has brought the man to the reality which he was completely ignoring. A virus that even the eyes cannot see has shaken the entire human race. This is the time for us to turn to our Lord and acknowledge His greatness,” said Talha Mannan, President, SIO AMU.

“The inevitable consequence of loving our Lord is that we treat our fellow human beings with love and compassion. It is necessary to pay their rights in order to gain the Lord’s pleasure. That is why, at the national level, SIO has stepped forward to serve humanity during this difficult time. Today, SIO and Jamaat-e-Islami members and volunteers are involved in this noble work at various levels in almost every province,” he added.

“Taking into consideration of this grave situation, we onboarded few Doctors of JNMCH, AMU & released a free Tele- Consultation Helpline number (+91 8905259006) on 4th May 2021. On the very first day, we received an enormous request of patients and disposed of queries of more than 70 of them. By the grace of God, we have been able to help more than 315 people in the span of two weeks & hope to continue doing so till we are able to overcome this pandemic,” said Hassan Alam, Coordinator, medical consultation helpline.

“Three teams of ebullient Medicos are coordinating round the clock with the Doctors. Every member of the team has been accorded a specific responsibility to discharge. A member has the duty to collect data (Complaint, duration of the disease, Medication, Medical history, etc.) of patients, another compiles the data and directs it to the assigned Specialist. Then the Doctor goes through the data of the patient & either connects directly with the patient or instructs the medico to guide the patient. A member coordinate between other volunteers, Doctor & Patient,” he added while explaining the working of Tele-consultation.

“Every day, about twenty patients contact our medical helpline, which connects them with doctors from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College. Furthermore, we are working on other levels, such as online verification of oxygen, medicines, and so on,” said Khushhal Ahmed, Secretary, SIO AMU.

“We are very grateful to all of the volunteers who have come forward to serve the people in this difficult and frightening time, and we pray to God to accept their noble service,” he added.
